If you asked an individual how they perceive Jeb Bush currently
you would get varying answers. Ask a republican and they might say that he is a
strong, bold leader that acts with great intent. However, if you were to ask a
democrat what they think they would look similar aspects and deem him too
strong and even overbearing as a government official. Regardless of how one may
twist it, facts are facts and Bush has shown that he is capable of being a good
and successful politician.
To be a greater success Bush should illuminate his
humanitarian background. While Bush may have more extreme views on immigration
than other candidates he should make it understood why. Jeb’s wife, Columba, is
a Mexican native which illustrates why he takes the stance he does on
immigration. Bush said that he does not view immigrants migrating illegally as
anything but trying to make a better life for one’s family which directly
relates to his family. While people may not always agree with what a
politician’s stance is on an issue people should be able to respect one caring
for their family.
Alike any politician, especially one who has held office,
they are plagued by many strengths and weaknesses. One strength that Bush
attains is that he is a strong leader. He is known for standing behind what he
believes in. Bush has made it clear that if he wins the presidency he wants to
do it himself; he does not want it because of his name, or saying things that
will simply make everyone back him.
While Bush being strong-willed is one of his largest
strengths this will in turn hurt him. Many people do not stand behind Bush’s
aggressive and progressive stance on immigration aforementioned. This makes
sense since it is a controversial topic which will always have opposition.
Despite Bush this large weakness against him a large
opportunity he has is the track record of parties trading off the White House.
This could give Bush the upper-hand against his opponent. In addition to this
Bush has a past of being a far-right politician. However, he is being viewed as
more moderate for the 2016 election as of late. This means that Bush has the
potential to target varying political viewpoints. With that being said, Jeb
still has to overcome his largest threat: his past. Bush has made some
questionable decisions in his past as many people have. The problem with this
is that Bush has been in the public eye for some time now which has led to
better documentation of these mistakes.
Bush stated in 2014 that if he were to run he would question
how politicians remain too loyal to their parties when it comes to certain
issues, especially education reform and immigration. He would like to improve
these areas while simultaneously remaining civil and productive in stepping in
the right direction. Jeb has explained that he is not against his party that he
would run with, but that something new, something hopeful needs to be done.

I like how you include the view of the opposite party when talking about Jeb's image. Also that you talked about even though he a is strong republican he still has the ability to understand multiple political viewpoints. Good job!
ReplyDeleteThanks Alyssa. I think that at times it is necessary to show each side of an argument to strengthen the ideology you are attempting to back.
